Ellon-based rotating equipment services provider Sulzer Wood Limited has been awarded a five-year contract extension to provide pump maintenance services for BP operations in the North Sea. Under the contract, the company will provide pump maintenance support to BP’s Glen Lyon, Clair and Clair Ridge assets.

The contract will create two new roles (a customer support engineer and a technical advisor) and will also increase the service engineer team by 10%.

Sulzer Wood’s General Manager, Murray Wilson said: “We are delighted to be awarded this challenging contract, and we look forward to working in close partnership with the BP rotating equipment team to deliver pump reliability improvements and extended maintenance intervals.”

The contract aims to improve the reliability of pumping equipment on the BP assets and optimise life-cycle costs. This award recognises Sulzer’s rotating equipment engineering pedigree and its track record in delivering pump reliability enhancement.

It extends BP’s existing 15-year partnership with Sulzer Wood through until 2022, and supports parent company Sulzer’s position as a global rotating equipment supplier to BP.

Sulzer Wood currently employs 80 people at its 5500 m2 facility in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. The company is a joint venture business established by Sulzer Pumps UK Limited and Aberdeen-based Wood PLC.

The joint venture specialises in critical pump maintenance and provision of bespoke rotating equipment solutions for production-critical equipment in the North Sea.
