EM&I awarded European patent for diverless HullGuard system

EM&I developed HullGuard - which is a class accepted and proven ICCP system – specifically for FPSOs, MODUs, FSRUs and FLNG assets.

HullGuard significantly improves safety and reduces commercial risk and avoids the high costs of diver / ROV intervention - yet provides highly effective hull protection for the life of the asset.

HullGuard consists of a cylindrical anode with an integral dielectric shield, that can be inserted through the hull through a class approved access port welded to the inside of the asset hull, and can be fitted to both new assets or retrofitted on operating assets.

It can also be retracted for inspection, cleaning, and/or replacement as required. The ‘wetted area’ of the average FPSO is around the size of two football pitches so a large area to protect. Up to four HullGuard anodes connected to an ICCP system are usually sufficient to protect an FPSO.

Commenting on this important patent award, Danny Constantinis (Executive Chairman) of the EM&I Group, stated: “HullGuard technology is one of the simplest, safer, lower cost, reliable, proven, and approved methods of hull protection available. It will play an important part in many areas including life extension and floating renewable energy assets.”
