  • BHGE completes assembly and loadout of the first gas turbine generator (GTG) module for the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan.
  • The plug and play, integrated solution of a Frame 9 GTG within an enclosed and air-conditioned module leads to more efficient installation and minimised risk during start-up activities at customer site.
  • BHGE to provide five 130MW GTG modules, all fully erected at BHGE’s own yard in Avenza, Italy, one of which will be fully commissioned and tested at full load.

Baker Hughes, a GE company, has completed the assembly of the first gas turbine generator (GTG) module to be installed in the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan, operated by Tengizchevroil LLP (“TCO”). The first piece of the GTG module left BHGE’s Avenza yard the night of Monday, June 25 and the loadout is commencing at Porto di Carrara on Wednesday, today June 26th.

This plug and play solution is specifically designed to integrate a Frame 9 gas turbine in an air-conditioned module with dimensions considered very stringent for this technology configuration. This module is a fundamental prerequisite to successful operation in the site’s harsh environment, which is characterised by extreme temperatures.

Located in Western Kazakhstan, Tengiz is one of the world’s largest oil and gas fields. In total, BHGE will supply five 130 MW power generation modules, all fully erected in BHGE’s own yard in Italy, which has been specifically designed to help maximise engineering and delivery speed and minimise installation risks at the customer’s site.

The first important milestone of the complex module assembly process was completed in August 2017, with the stacking-procedure in which the upper section of the main GTG module was placed safely and precisely on the lower one, within just a few millimetres tolerance, followed in May 2018 by the first ever full load string test performed on a Frame 9 gas turbine for a power generation application on BHGE premises.

“We’ve established a strong collaboration with Tengizchevroil, with BHGE supporting the project with sophisticated and highly customised technology solutions,” said Davide Iannucci, Vice President Global Projects of Turbomachinery & Process Solutions at BHGE. “With our extensive in-house design, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities, we have been able to create the most efficient solution to meet TCO’s requirements in terms of weight, space, power distribution, and performance.”

BHGE module solutions are designed with a rigorous safety mindset and provide customers with the invaluable advantage of total simplification, to facilitate the operation and maintenance of all equipment inside the module, even in the harshest operating environments.
