ABB to provide solutions for oilfields off UAE

Hyundai Heavy Industries has recently placed an order, requesting that ABB, a leading power and automation technology group, organise and manage electrical and telecommunication systems offshore UAE. The order, worth approximately US$100 million, is for power management, electrification and telecommunication solutions, which are to be installed to improve safety and reliability whilst also reducing operating expenditures and emissions at chosen sites.
Power-from-shore systems
The ABB solution consists of power management, power-from-shore and telecom systems which are interconnected to ensure the highest levels of efficiency, reliability and safety. ABB has proven that the use of power-from-shore for energy platforms helps to reduce emissions, ease operations and improve working conditions by lowering noise levels. The facilities covered by the referred contract will be powered by a subsea ring cable from Das Island, about 160 km west of Abu Dhabi.
Integrates transformers and switchgears
The power management system integrates the network of transformers and switchgears, enabling operators to control this vast electrical installation in a safe and consistent manner. It includes an intelligent asset management system that will provide predictive maintenance of equipment, reduce operating costs and extend service life.
Fully integrated telecommunication system
ABB will provide a complete and fully integrated telecommunication system to the Al Nasr super complex for internal and external communication and field security. The system will include: electronic personnel tracking, a camera system, public address and general alarm systems, access control, a telephone system, and a transmission system between platforms.
ABB has supported the Al Nasr full field development project from the concept stage, through front-end engineering and design and now the construction phase.
