Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing visited Livingston, UK based WFS Technologies on its 10th anniversary, reinforcing the government’s commitment to innovation in the oil and gas sector.
Mr Ewing highlighted the Scottish Government’s oil and gas strategy, which encourages the growth of indigenous businesses that support North Sea operations and the export of leading-edge technology.
During the visit, the Minister discussed two of WFS’s integrated monitoring solutions: Seatooth CP, a smart monitoring system for corrosion protection, and Seatooth PipeLogger, a retrofit wireless sensor and control system.
These innovative products are being used by the oil and gas industry to support asset integrity management and to assist with extending the life of fields.
Mr Ewing said “innovation [is] central to a more prosperous and productive oil and gas sector, and companies like WFS Technologies demonstrate the world-class expertise and knowledge [that] reside in this country.”
WFS: subsea wireless innovations
WFS is a leader in subsea wireless instrumentation and control solutions serving the offshore oil and gas and renewables industries.
WFS is helping operators and service companies work around the challenges of subsea communications and control to improve safety, reliability and efficiency. Having delivered more than 6000 subsea instrumentation and control products and secured design-ins with major blue-chip customers around the world, WFS is an example of Scotland’s strength in innovation and export.
Giving the North Sea a ‘second life’
The Minister emphasised the importance to the Scottish economy of building an ecosystem of innovative SMEs that deliver products that add value in managing mature fields to give North Sea fields a “second life”.
