These terms cover your use of this site, free member accounts and paid subscriptions, published by Palladian Publications Ltd.
Security and cookie practices are part of these terms too; you will find both explained in plain terms below, alongside our privacy policy which also forms part of these terms.
This website is published by Palladian Publications Ltd, a UK company. These terms apply to all visitors and to anyone who holds a free member account or a paid subscription. By accessing or using the site you accept them; if you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
Our privacy policy forms part of these terms, and the security and cookies sections below set out how we protect your data and what we store in your browser. Please read them before using the site.
You can register for a free account or take out a paid subscription. The details you give us must be accurate, complete and kept up to date; providing false information is a breach of these terms and can lead to your account being closed.
Sign-in works with one-time codes sent to your email address, so there is no site password. That makes your email account the key to your membership: keep it secure, and tell us immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account. You're responsible for activity that happens under your sign-in.
Access to digital editions of our printed magazines is for you. Do not share links to digital editions with others, and do not reproduce content from the magazines or the site without our prior written approval.
Paid subscriptions are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, at the prices shown on the subscribe page. Payments are processed by Stripe; see the security section below for how your card details are handled. By providing a payment method you authorise us, through Stripe, to charge the subscription fees your account incurs.
If an automatic renewal payment fails, we may ask you to complete the payment manually, and access may be paused until it goes through.
We may change subscription prices, but never mid-term without telling you: any increase takes effect from your next renewal, with reasonable notice beforehand so you can cancel first if you prefer. Continuing your subscription after that notice means you accept the new price.
You can cancel from your account settings at any time, or by contacting us. Cancelling stops future renewals; your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.
You confirm that you have the legal right to use any payment method you provide, and that the billing information you supply is true and complete.
We work to keep prices and product descriptions accurate, but mistakes happen: a price may be wrong, a description inaccurate or a product unavailable. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order for reasons including pricing or description errors, availability, an error in your order, or suspected fraud or an unauthorised transaction. Where we cancel a paid order for our error, you will not be charged, or will be refunded.
Nothing in this section or these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Refund requests are considered case by case. Contact us with your invoice details and the reason for the request, and we will respond promptly. Except where the law requires otherwise, refunds are at our discretion.
Any contest, prize draw or other promotion we run may have its own rules, separate from these terms. If you take part, read those rules; where they conflict with these terms, the promotion rules apply to the promotion.
The site and its original content, features and functionality belong to Palladian Publications Ltd and its licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws of the United Kingdom and other countries. Our trademarks and branding may not be used in connection with any product or service without our prior written consent. You may read and share links to our pages freely, but reproducing or redistributing our content, in print or online, needs our prior written permission.
Where the site lets you submit material, such as a contributed article or a comment, you are responsible for it, including its legality and accuracy, and you confirm that it is yours or that you have the right to submit it, and that it does not violate anyone else's rights. You keep ownership of what you submit, but you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence (with the right to sub-licence) to use, reproduce, distribute, adapt, display and perform it in connection with the service and our business.
We respect the intellectual property rights of others, and we handle complaints under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright or other rights, send a written complaint to our notice and takedown team through the contact page, marked urgent.
To help us act quickly, include: your contact details (name, email address and daytime phone number); enough detail for us to identify the material complained of; the reasons for your objection; and, where relevant, evidence of your ownership of the copyright or trademark in question.
We review each complaint on its merits and may remove or disable access to the material while we investigate. Where claims to ownership conflict, our policy is to err on the side of removal.
Use the site lawfully and in a way that does not interfere with it working for other people. In particular, do not attempt to gain access to other accounts or our systems, scrape content at scale, or use the site to distribute anything unlawful or harmful.
Payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. The payment form is provided by Stripe itself, so your card number travels directly from your browser to Stripe over an encrypted connection. It never reaches our servers and we never store it; we keep only your invoice history and a Stripe customer reference. Where your bank requires it, payments are confirmed with Strong Customer Authentication (3-D Secure).
Signing in uses one-time email codes instead of passwords. Codes expire within 10 to 15 minutes, work exactly once, and requests are rate limited. You can also sign in with LinkedIn through the standard OAuth process, which means we never see your LinkedIn details.
Once signed in, your session is kept in an httpOnly cookie that scripts on the page cannot read, backed by a session record on our servers, so signing out ends it properly. All traffic to our sites is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS), and sign-in endpoints are monitored for abuse.
If you think you have found a security problem on any of our sites, please report it through the contact page with enough detail for us to reproduce it.
Our sites set a small number of cookies. Two are essential: memberSessionToken keeps you signed in (removed when you sign out; its lifetime depends on whether you chose "remember me"), and guestId is a random identifier with no personal data in it that lets features like white paper downloads work when you are not signed in, lasting up to a year. Your consent choice itself is saved in your browser as "cookie-consent". None of our cookies store your name, address or payment details.
Everything else waits for your permission. When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice, and nothing optional is set before you decide.
If you accept: Google Analytics 4 measures which pages get read, with IP addresses anonymised, using cookies whose names begin with _ga. Adverts, which come from industry advertisers we work with directly through Google Ad Manager, may use Google cookies for things like capping how often you see the same advert.
If you decline: no analytics data is stored, and adverts run in Google's limited, non-personalised mode, which does not use cookies to profile you.
Separately, the Stripe payment form sets its own fraud-prevention cookies, but only on pages where the payment form appears.
You can change your choice at any time: clearing this site's data in your browser removes the stored "cookie-consent" value and the banner will ask again. Your browser settings also let you review, block or delete cookies; blocking the essential ones will break signing in. To learn more about cookies generally, aboutcookies.org is a good starting point.
Our articles and pages link to third-party websites and services we do not own or control. We have no control over their content, terms or privacy practices and accept no responsibility for them, or for any loss caused by your use of or reliance on them. Read the terms and privacy policies of any site you visit.
We may suspend or close your account immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach these terms, and in serious cases of misuse for the protection of the service. On termination your right to use member features of the site ends. If you want to close your account, contact us or simply stop using the service.
Provisions that by their nature should survive termination do survive it, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity and limitations of liability.
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Palladian Publications Ltd, its licensors and their respective employees, contractors, agents, officers and directors against claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of your use of the service or anyone using your account, a breach of these terms, or content you post on the service.
Your use of the service is at your own risk. The site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that defects will be corrected, that it is free of viruses or other harmful components, or that it will meet your requirements. Content on the site is trade journalism, not professional advice for any specific situation.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Palladian Publications Ltd and its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary loss or damage, including loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, business, savings or other intangible losses, arising from or relating to your use of or inability to use the service, third-party conduct or content on the service, content obtained from the service, or unauthorised access to your transmissions or content, whatever the legal theory and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damage.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights.
We may modify or replace these terms at any time. If a change is material, we will aim to give at least 30 days notice before it takes effect, for example with a notice on the site. The current version is always on this page.
Continuing to use the site after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree to the new terms, stop using the service.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict of law provisions, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over disputes arising from them.
If we do not enforce a right or provision of these terms, that is not a waiver of it. If a court finds any provision invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in effect. These terms are the entire agreement between us regarding the service and replace any earlier agreements about it.
