A total of 30 companies participated in Lease Sale 252, covering a 1.2 million acre area of federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company has closed the previously announced strategic deepwater Gulf of Mexico joint venture with Petrobras America Inc., a subsidiary of Petrobras.

The field is located approximately 225 miles (360 km) south of New Orleans, La., in a water depth of approximately 5200 ft (1584 m).
