Hardbanding Solutions by Postle Industries release new procedure to extend life of work string connections

Rather than replacing worn work tube, a new procedure for the application of Duraband® NC hardbanding on work string tubing connections is said to restore worn work string tubulars.

The upset connections of 2 7/8 in. and 2 3/8 in. tubing are experiencing excessive wear in many drilling environments, especially in abrasive formations and when using long horizontal laterals. This excessive wear is not allowing the work string connection to achieve its normal amount of recuts, effectively causing the tubing to be scrapped before reaching 100% of its useful life.

However, a new procedure from Hardbanding Solutions by Postle Industries has been shown to significantly increase service life. The procedure calls for the application of Duraband NC hardbanding to both pin and box near the taper, allowing for multiple re-cuts as necessary. The procedure is recommended for new tubing, application over used tubing or re-applications over previously hardbanded connections.
