EIC appoints new president

The Energy Industries Council (EIC), the leading trade association for UK companies that supply goods and services to the energy industries worldwide, is pleased to announce the appointment of its new president Chris Haynes OBE FREng.

Chris is a senior oil and gas industry professional with almost 40 years’ experience with the Shell Group and its affiliates around the world.

He has a broad range of experience in oil and gas exploration and production, including in heading up Shell's operations in Syria and delivering the company’s major upstream projects worldwide. He has also worked in LNG and the petrochemical business in both project development and operations.

During his career with Shell, Chris served two secondments: one to Woodside Petroleum’s North West Shelf Venture from 1999-2002 as General Manager, and subsequently to Nigeria LNG, as Managing Director. His work in Nigeria earned him an OBE in 2009 for his services to the British oil and gas industry.

Since retiring in 2011, Chris has worked as an independent consultant in the oil and gas and minerals industries and is a non-executive director of WorleyParsons and Woodside Petroleum, also serving on the Health, Safety and Environment Committee of the boards of these companies.

Chris will be making his first appearance with the EIC at the Aramco Supplier Initiative Export Showcase on 6 October, before his inauguration at the EIC National Dinner on 15 October.

Chris’ long career in client organisation in oil and gas will really complement EIC Chairman Paul Mitchell’s strong background in supplier and contractor management in the power sector. “I look forward to working with them both in taking the EIC forward and further supporting our members. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our past president, The Rt. Hon. Lord Howell of Guildford, for the work he has done during his tenure.”

Chris commented: “I am privileged to be accepting the role as President of the EIC and am ready to assist them in any way I can to meet the challenges ahead. “In my career, I have had a good deal of exposure to British suppliers and contractors in oil and gas and I look forward to learning more about the nuclear, power and renewables industry, and helping the entire energy sector to exploit new opportunities.”
