Scantrol exhibits Active Heave Compensation solutions at OTC 2018

Attendees at OTC 2018 have the opportunity to learn about Scantrol's Active Heave Compensation (AHC) solutions for winches and cranes and discuss upgrades of existing systems by visiting stand 4239.

AHC is a control system for electric and hydraulic winches, cranes, LARS, wellhead intervention in subsea operations. The system controls the winch to eliminate vessel motion that would otherwise be transferred to the load.

The system includes a motion reference unit (MRU) that measures vessel heave, pitch and roll motion. It adapts to varying load and operating conditions to maintain safe and efficient compensation without overloading the winches.

Scantrol AHC gives the winch operator precise control over the load, even when operating in rough sea conditions. This results in increased operational time and minimised weather related downtime.

Scantrol has also developed an AHC toolbox that makes it possible to specify AHC requirements and find the optimum winch design to match these. This helps the winch designer to identify critical factors and to minimise power consumption. The toolbox includes software for data logging and for monitoring of AHC performance.

This system is flexible and can be delivered in different configurations, ranging from a control unit with a simple operator panel or radio control, to an advanced iSYM system with multiple displays and data recorders.
