IMES Group establishes new offshore safety division

After making a six-figure investment, IMES Group has announced the establishment of its new its Marine Safety Systems (MSS) division, designed to enhance offshore safety and integrity. The business is expected to create an initial total of 10 jobs after its launch – the division already has with six personnel, and a further four are expected to follow by the end 2015.

A dedicated facility offering an array of safety equipment services

Initially located at the company’s Bridge of Don headquarters, IMES plans to move its MSS division to its own dedicated facility in the north-east by the end of the year as an attempt to support expected growth.

IMES MSS offers an array of safety equipment services – from initial design to lifetime support, including lifeboats, davits, winches, release hook systems and fast rescue craft. These are manufactured and built to comply with the European Marine Directive and in full compliance with SOLAS and LSA regulations.

Furthermore, the company will provide multi-skilled technicians to complete annual lifting equipment inspection simultaneously with lifeboat and davit inspection and testing.

IMES’ MSS division has been formally recognised for its commitment to offshore marine safety operations, attaining accreditations with DNV GL and Lloyds Register for the provision of inspection, servicing and maintenance of lifeboats, launching appliances and on-load release gear.

Colin Cunningham has been appointed to lead of the MSS business as Operations Director, bring over 35 years’ oil and gas experience and industry knowledge, particularly in the global marine safety sector. His previous roles include Global Director of Launch and Recovery Systems at Survitec Group and Operations Director for Marine and Offshore Operations at Cosalt Offshore.

Colin Cunningham said: “I’m extremely pleased to have joined a business with such a strong reputation in the marketplace as IMES in order to help drive the growth of this new division.” He added: “The launch of MSS will bring significant cost savings to businesses across the oil and gas and commercial marine industries as well as an increased level of technical assurance. By bringing together lifting and marine inspections, we can provide clients with cost efficiencies in excess of 15% with additional savings in both time and mobilisation.
