Aqualis Offshore has been contracted by South Korean OCEANUS Co. Ltd. to provide specialist floatover services for an LNG regasification platform topside offshore Bahrain.

Aqualis Offshore, part of Oslo-listed Aqualis ASA, will deliver the project as a subcontractor to OCEANUS, who is in charge of the transportation and installation contract on behalf of its EPC contractor client, GS E&C.

OCEANUS will transport the 7000 t topside from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to its final destination at the LNG Terminal location in Bahrain.

The scope of work for Aqualis Offshore’s subcontract includes provision of project management services, specialist floatover engineering, and supervision for loadout and floatover installation operations. Aqualis Offshore’s work commences immediately and the company’s involvement will run until Q3 2018. The contract value is undisclosed.

The new facilities will include a fixed platform for unloading LNG carriers, a newbuild FSU (floating storage unit) and an onshore receiving facility which together comprise the LNG Import Terminal development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

“This is an important project for Aqualis Offshore. Topside floatovers are a specialist competence of ours which we are very happy to utilise in what has been a somewhat weak floatover market in recent years. Although this is not a particularly heavy topside compared to many floatovers, the project has some interesting challenges with the shallow water depth. This contract also highlights the importance of having a physical presence in both Asia and the Middle East,” says Phil Lenox, director – Asia Pacific, Aqualis Offshore.

Aqualis Offshore will manage the floatover project out of its Singapore office.

Aqualis Offshore is a specialised marine and offshore engineering consultancy focusing on the shallow and deep-water segments of the offshore oil and gas industry as well as the offshore wind industry.
