Jee’s new decommissioning training offering

Jee Ltd, a multi-discipline subsea engineering and training firm, has expanded their training portfolio to cover the growing decommissioning sector in the UKCS.

With a large number of decommissioning projects already underway and many more forecast for the next five years, decommissioning is becoming an increasing focus for operators, particularly in the North Sea. Jee will be hosting two hour workshops giving an introduction to decommissioning in the North Sea in Aberdeen and London in April 2016, delivered by decommissioning facilitator Dorothy Burke.

Jee’s Head of Training, Jenny Matthew said: “With spending on decommissioning in 2016 estimated to be as much as £1.5 billion in the North Sea alone, decommissioning is a hot topic for the industry. In line with the industry and our clients’ needs, we are delighted to expand our training portfolio to cover decommissioning.”

Facilitated by decommissioning specialist, Dorothy Burke, the two hour workshop is suitable for anyone involved or interested in decommissioning. Giving an outline of the key elements, the workshops will help attendees understand the activities associated with offshore decommissioning and how to manage projects effectively.

Workshop facilitator Dorothy Burke said: “With so many operators and supply chain companies now focusing on decommissioning, this is a great introduction to the subject. I’m excited to be working with Jee and delivering the workshop, as it offers significant opportunities for innovative solutions and collaborative working.”Jee has also developed a two day course, Planning, executing and managing decommissioning projects in the North Sea, which delves deeper into the subject.

Graham Wilson, Head of Late Life at Jee, will be facilitating the two day course in London and Norwich. Detailing the complete decommissioning process from beginning to end, the course will cover planning activities and considerations, well plugging and abandonment, approaches to the decommissioning of structures and pipelines and the associated onshore activities.

Wilson said: “Supported by Jee’s 27 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry and ten years’ in the decommissioning sector, this course will share our valuable insight into the approaches, issues and challenges associated with decommissioning across the North Sea.”

Wilson continued: “I am looking forward to discussing the new and innovative cost-saving approaches in which Jee has been involved and that are emerging across the sector. This is particularly relevant, given the current climate and the need to reduce the taxpayer contribution.

With a pre-course orientation session and post-course sessions to extend learning beyond the classroom, delegates will also get an opportunity to ask subject matter experts any technical questions.

Offering expertise covering every stage of a decommissioning project, Jee’s engineering team has been involved in many innovative decommissioning projects. Recently, in collaboration with Decom North Sea and Zero Waste Scotland, Jee produced an industry study into the removal and reuse of subsea mattresses.
