EM&I demonstrates NoMan inspection technology

EM&I has arranged a series of ‘live’ webinars to demonstrate (virtually) their NoMan® robotic camera and synchronous laser systems for tank and confined space inspections.

Over a hundred participants from operators, regulators and class societies attended the live streamed practical demonstration from EM&I’s Technology Development Centre in Cumbria, UK.

Danny Constantinis (Executive Chairman) said: “The latest NoMan technology is a game changer because we can now swiftly carry out a full scope inspection including thickness measurements, distortion checks, general, close visual, pitting and coating surveys, with no human entry into tanks.

Pat Lawless (CEO /COO) said: “The major class societies attended, and NoMan certification is expected in the next few weeks. An equally exciting outcome is our ability to provide owners and class with a live-streamed survey which will reduce the need for class to physically attend the asset.”

The safety, environmental and cost benefits are significant as all aspects of normal manned inspection can be achieved without having to prepare tanks for the manned entry, personnel working at height or in confined spaces.

David Mortlock (CTO) said: “The NoMan system is operated from outside the confined space by a two-man team with all the engineering and data analysis being performed onshore maybe on a different continent. We are already considering permanently installed systems on unmanned installations that will avoid putting any people on board.”

Constantinis commented: “These ‘live’ webinars have given our clients and the class societies an opportunity to witness the power of this technology, which we think will revolutionise tank and other difficult to access areas in future.”
