InterMoor, an Acteon company, has added inspection and testing capabilities to its marine base at the Açu Superport in São João da Barra, northern Rio de Janeiro.

The base now boasts a 1000 t test bed and can perform load and breaking test for chain, wire rope, and mooring accessories up to 800 t SWL.

The inspection, test, and certification capabilities also extend to cargo-handling material like cranes, hoists, rigging, water bags, and slings. The company works with certification agencies such as ABS, DNV, BV and RINA, as requested per the client for each project.

InterMoor’s Port Açu facility opened in June 2014. It is located on a 52 300 m2 site with a 90 m quayside, a 10 m operational draft and a back storage area of 580 m2. From the Açu marine base, InterMoor supports a wide range of customer requirements, including mooring services, equipment storage and maintenance, and vessel docking, supply, loading, and offloading.

Cleiver Moulin, managing director, InterMoor do Brasil, says, “The new testing equipment enables us to widen our offering to our customers in the oil and gas and cargo transportation industries. We are now delivering a new set of integrity services including inspection, nondestructive tests, repair, and maintenance for all types of mooring components and cargo handling. There currently are 43 FPSO offshore Brazil and our marine base at the Açu Superport is strategically placed to provide them with the necessary inspection, repair, and maintenance work for their mooring system.”

InterMoor is also investing in inspecting and testing low and mid load (70 t SWL) components at clients’ premises, allowing significant savings in logistics and increasing the uptime of the components while improving overall HSE indicators by reducing cargo liftings and road transportation.
