Maritime Assurance & Consulting (MAC) is on the expansion trail following a surge in worldwide demand for the Aberdeen-based firm’s dynamic positioning (DP) services.

MAC provides consultancy and support services to the worldwide marine, construction, drilling and floating production industries. DP is one of the firm’s key growth areas, with 12 new projects commissioned in the past two months.

The work will involve the MAC team being deployed on vessels for the Brazilian, Gulf of Mexico, Nigerian, Scandinavian and Chinese markets. Each of the projects scheduled to begin within the next six months or has already started, with clients including Bakker Sliedrecht, Allseas, Technip, Vard Shipyard in Norway, Exxon Nigeria, Cosco in China and Subsea 7 in Korea.

MAC managing director Graeme Reid said: “We have been committed to building our reputation as an international specialist in dynamic positioning. The rewarding aspect of these recent contract wins is that they are a result of the foundations that have been laid. Many are with new clients and that demonstrates the way in which our reach is expanding. The team is servicing a truly global fleet.

“We forecast revenue for the DP department will grow by up to 50% in 2015 and we have supported that growth by strengthening the team, with a marine engineer and an electrical engineer already joining the business in January.

“It has been a very busy 12 months across all departments and it is encouraging to see the project pipeline stretching out as we prepare for the next stage in our development.”

MAC has previously presented at the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) annual seminar, sharing the company’s expertise in DP and the importance of maintaining and monitoring systems.

The MAC team consists of 28 employees, with additional expertise provided by over 30 associate consultants to service growing global demand. The firm, based in the UK, was recently ranked seventh in the prestigious Startups100 index of the best new British businesses. It reported annual turnover of £3.43 million for the year up to July 2014, representing a rise of almost 20% from the £2.89m recorded for the previous 12 months.
