Aberdeen to host energy conference in 2016

Over 2000 visitors from around the world are expected to gather in Aberdeen as the latest smart technologies and IE solutions are showcased at SPE Intelligent Energy 2016. This seventh edition of the biennial event will be held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) from 6 - 8 September 2016.

Jeff Spath, 2014 President of SPE, said: “Holding SPE Intelligent Energy 2016 in Aberdeen presents an exciting opportunity to bring together international experts in a city which has produced some of the most progressive smart technology and thinking. The possibilities and opportunities arising from the new digital world are endless and this event provides a unique platform to explore the ideas, processes and technologies that are shaping smart achievements across other industries as well as our own.”

Vasyl Zhygalo, Senior Exhibition Director, Energy and Marine, Reed Exhibitions added: “We are excited to be holding SPE Intelligent Energy in Aberdeen for the first time and to continue our long-standing and successful partnership with the city where our flagship event, SPE Offshore Europe, has been taking place for over 40 years.”

SPE Intelligent Energy 2014 was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands and themed ‘Aspirations and Accomplishments’. Industry professionals from 35 countries, including 600 conference delegates, participated in panel discussions, special sessions and interactive Q&As. Delegates considered the growing importance of digital energy in increasing asset value while improving health, safety and environmental performance.

The 2016 conference will be produced by SPE and will comprise of a three day technical programme with an estimated 80 papers covering topics including technology, integrated operations, leadership, cyber-security and big data. The exhibition, organised by Reed Exhibitions, will showcase new and developing technologies and expertise by leading operators, service companies and technology providers.

Aberdeen City Council leader Jenny Laing said: "Aberdeen is at the heart of the energy industry in Europe and a leading light globally. Our city is widely recognised for its research and development, training, expertise and knowledge, which is sought after across the energy sectors worldwide.

“Aberdeen is also well known as a city which excels in the development and production of smart energy technology, so it is very fitting that SPE Intelligent Energy 2016 is to take place here. I look forward to welcoming delegates to Aberdeen as they arrive for the event and to learning of the new developments in this exciting area."

Brian Horsburgh, MD of AECC concluded: “We are delighted that Reed Exhibitions and the Society of Petroleum Engineers have confirmed that they are bringing the SPE Intelligent Energy Conference and Exhibition to Aberdeen in 2016.
