SPE and EAGE sign agreement for intersociety co-operation

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) have formalised an agreement to work collaboratively for the benefit of their members on joint events, young member programmes and other services.

‘This memorandum of understanding formalises a relationship that has existed for a number of years. This is an exciting opportunity for both societies to work together on university student activities, young professional programmes and our energy education outreach for younger students that will help prepare the next generation for careers in our industry,’ said Behrooz Fattahi, 2010 SPE President.

‘We have a number of areas of overlapping interest and working together has always been beneficial for both societies. By increasing co-operation we can enhance the value of our programmes and create new opportunities for our members and the E&P industry worldwide,’ said Mahmoud Abdulbaqi, EAGE President.

The two societies have also agreed to seek ways to collaborate on workshops and conferences for members, including Offshore Europe. Under the agreement, the societies will establish an EAGE/SPE Co-operation Committee to oversee the relationship, with initial plans to meet twice annually.

SPE
SPE is a not-for-profit professional association whose members are engaged in energy resources development and production. SPE serves over 88 000 members in 118 countries worldwide. SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge related to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, and provides services through its publications, conferences, workshops, forums and website.

EAGE
EAGE is a professional society with a worldwide membership providing a global network of commercial and academic professionals to all members. The association is truly multi-disciplinary and international in form and pursuits. The objective is to promote the development and application of geosciences and related engineering subjects and this is achieved through publications, conferences, workshops, education programmes and exhibitions. EAGE has offices in Europe, Russia and the Middle East.
