Eni makes giant gas discovery offshore Mozambique
Eni has made an announcement claiming that it has made a giant natural gas discovery offshore Mozambique at the Coral 1 well in Area 4.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 4869 m in water 2261 m deep and is located some 26 km south east of the company’s earlier Coral 1 discovery.
A statement released by the company said, “The discovery well encountered a total of 75 meters of gas pay in single high-quality Eocene sand. This discovery is particularly significant since it confirms a new exploration play, which is independent of those drilled so far in previous Mamba wells.” A production test has been scheduled.
This new discovery is estimated to contain somewhere between 7 and 10 trillion ft3, all of which is located inside Area 4. This brings to estimated total reserves for the area up to an estimated range of 47 to 52 trillion ft3.
The company also has plans to drill a further five wells in Area 4 in order to “fully establish the upside potential” of the area.
Eni has a 70% interest in Area 4 and is the operator of the zone. Galp Energia, Kogas, and ENH hold 10% each.
