Damen delivers fourth platform supply vessel

Oilfield Technology,

Damen Shipyards Group has delivered the fourth of six Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) to the Norwegian company World Wide Supply.

The ‘World Emerald’ vessel is a Damen PSV 3300 CD. The first ship, ‘World Diamond’, was delivered in July. The fifth, ‘World Opal’, will be received in a few weeks, while the last in the series, ‘World Sapphire’ is due to be delivered by the end of the year.

Meeting future demand
The new design involved extensive CAD/CAM modeling by Damen Shipyards, as well as model testing at the Maritime Research Institute in the Netherlands (MARIN). The PSV 3300 is part of a new range of Damen PSVs, which have a length of 80.1 m and a deck load of 1500 t. The new type of vessel can be used to transport crew and equipment to and from offshore platforms, and additionally offers firefighting and oil pollution recovery capabilities. The ships are equipped with azimuth thrusters and dynamic positioning (DP2).

Four of the six World Wide Supply PSV 3300s have secured long-term contracts supporting Petrobras at offshore locations in Brazil. The remaining two in the series are due to operate on the North Sea spot charter market.
