Ramco invests in young talent throughout the globe

Portlethen-headquartered Ramco Oil Services, a care and maintenance company for oil country tubular goods, has provided valuable training to two local members of the Mombasa community to undertake tubular inspection in Kenya.

Ramco, which specialises in inspection, internal and external blast cleaning and protective coating of steel pipes used in exploration and production of oil and gas, is committed to investing in its ‘local’ communities throughout the world.

Upon appointment of an inspection contract in Kenya, Ramco chose to contract two local residents, Robert Wachira and Peter Kariuki, to work with them to carry out inspection of tubing and casing. This work is performed upon receipt from the mills and prior to being shipped to the rig site.

Both men travelled on behalf of Ramco to the Aberdeenshire base, where they received intensive training over the course of a month and a half and further on the job training in Kenya.

Sales manager, Ron Slater, said: “We are very aware of our corporate social responsibility and are always keen to give back to the communities in which we work.

“Kenya is a growing oil and gas hub and we became aware of how our business may impact on the economy, and the local area. It’s important for us to invest in local people who are enthusiastic and excited about the work we carry out and Robert and Peter are no different.”

The in depth training was carried out at Ramco’s Portlethen facilities and conducted by various members of the management team, steel mills representatives and connection manufacturers. The intensive programme has provided both Robert and Peter with a strong understanding of tubing and casing including; visual inspection, verification of rejects, drift certification and yard handling and storage procedures.
