The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority has given Spirit Energy consent to drill exploration wells 8/10-7 S and 8/10-8 S in production licence 405 in the North Sea.

The purpose of these two wells is to investigate a prospect that Spirit Energy has named ‘Cassidy’. The consent applies to exploration drilling with a sidetrack, well testing and associated appraisal well.

The drilling location is in the southern North Sea, around 15 km from the Ula field.

Well 8/10-7 S has the following geographical coordinates:

  • 57°06'59.4" N
  • 03°03'31.5" E

Well 8/10-8 S has the following geographical coordinates:

  • 57°07'06.1" N
  • 03°05'19.3" E

Water depth at the site is 66 m.

Drilling of the wells is scheduled to start on 10 November. The drilling operations are expected to last for 162 days.

The wells are to be drilled using the Maersk Interceptor mobile drilling facility. The facility was delivered by the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore in 2014. It is owned by Maersk AS and operated by Maersk Drilling Norge AS. Maersk Interceptor was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in December 2014.
