The Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA)’s European Chapter is currently seeking entries for its ICoTA Innovation Award.

With the organisation now in its 25th year, ICoTA Europe annually celebrates excellence in the well intervention industry with this prestigious prize. The award recognises a service company or operator who has pushed the boundaries of well intervention and coiled tubing technology.

As well as searching for new well intervention technologies, ICoTA Europe also opens up the prize to existing technologies used in innovative ways which reinforces the organisation’s strong focus on optimising energy production across Europe.

Award entries must show value to the industry in terms of reducing risk, increasing recovery, improving safety and/or minimising environmental impact. The technology must have been applied for the first time since 31 March 2018 and should have either been developed in Europe and applied in Europe or elsewhere for the first time, or developed elsewhere and applied for the first time in Europe.

Last year, Ocean Team Scandinavia A/S took home the trophy for the company’s SCC02 technology. Providing a solution to something previously impossible, the innovative technology allows for emptying oil, back-flushing and clearing a blockage in a closed loop TRSSSV hydraulic control line.

Espen Kähler Amundsen (pictured), Managing Director of Ocean Team Fluidcare UK Ltd, said: "It was a huge surprise to win the ICoTA Innovation Award. We did not expect it with the technologies that we were competing with. But it felt very good to have our hard work recognized. One of our customers suggested entering and sent us the link to the ICoTA Europe website. We then looked into the organisation and could see the benefits immediately, and recognition we could get out of it. So a big thanks to our customers, they know who they are. We have had several projects in the UK after winning the award that opened up huge possibilities for us.”

George Waugh, ICoTA Europe Chair 2019/20, commented: “The ICoTA Innovation Award is an important and exciting initiative for us. ICoTA Europe aims to improve communication and promote the value of well intervention and integrity solutions, therefore it is vital that we continue to seek entries from companies who are using innovative design and smart engineering to increase production, or manage well integrity. Historically we have seen a significant variety and diversity of technological ideas, and the judging panel is always eager to see what is on the horizon. Whether companies show us a brand-new technology, or how they have adapted an existing technology in novel ways, the innovation and strategic thinking displayed by these companies is always impressive and we are proud to reward them with the recognition they deserve.”

Entries for the ICoTA Innovation Award 2019 are now open and will close on Monday 23 September. The winner will be announced at the SPE ICoTA Well Intervention Conference at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, UK, in November.
