MINExpo 2012: materials handling

Gearing solutions and services company David Brown launched its innovative new conveying system, the CX series, at MINExpo 2012. The customised conveyor drive system, which has been designed specifically for the mining industry, is the product of collaboration between the company’s US, UK and Australian operations.

The CX series gearboxes are designed to operate at highly-defined levels of torque, speed, power and thermal rating. It offers up to four times longer bearing life; up to 20% greater thermal capacity; precision gear tooth profiles for reduced noise and maximised power transfer; an optimised rugged cast housing with superior power to weight ratio; and a unique flippable design with modular mounting options.

The CX series has been field verified in the Australian Pilbara region, operating in ports and mines and comes with a three-year extended warranty package.

Flexco

Flexco introduced a host of new and updated products to expand its materials handling range.

The CoreTech™ line of rollers is designed to overcome common issues with belt conveyor rollers. Its lightweight construction requires less energy and emits less noise than steel rollers, but is durable enough to resist abrasion and friction on the surface of the roller. The rollers provide the same Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) rating as steel rollers, but with a longer service life and superior wear. CoreTech rollers are 40 – 50% lighter than steel, requiring only one person to lift, carry and place, requiring less manpower and increasing productivity.

EZ Impact Beds and EZ Slider beds improve performance in belt conveyor load zones. EZ Impact Beds provide protection in the load zone for light- to medium-duty operations, with impact bars for absorbing material impact and adjustable trough angles and universal components. EZ Slider Beds are engineering to provide containment around the load zones, with UHMW slider bars to effectively seal the load and provide longer wear life. They are available with optional CoreTech impact rollers for superior containment in light impact areas. The slider bed and impact bed can be paired to create a holistic load zone system.

Flexco also introduced a portable air tensioner system designed to ensure proper tension will be applied to the belt cleaner throughout its life. The system uses air or nitrogen to provide constant blade-to-belt pressure. It is made from heavy-duty corrosion-resistant materials and is available for use with many cleaners.

The PT Smart™ belt trainer is designed for medium-duty tensioned belts and suitable for use on both mechanical and vulcanised belts. It includes the patented Flexco “Pivot-and-tilt” design, which applies greater belt tracking discipline than conventional pivot-only belt steering devices.
