Saltire Energy, a leading supplier of drilling tools to the offshore oil and gas industry, has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Society accolade at the 2014 Northern Star Business Awards, as a result of its on-going support of local charity initiatives.

The prestigious black tie ceremony, which took place last night (Thursday 25 September) at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, recognised companies for their outstanding performance and achievements in business. Categories also included Excellence in Health and Safety, Commitment to People Development and Commitment to Innovative Use of Research and Development.

Through its Saltire in the Community Programme, Saltire Energy has established and supported a number of local sporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the fitness, health and well-being of disadvantaged children. The company has also donated substantial funds to local charity, Befriend a Child, and the Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre.

Mike Loggie, Chief Executive of Saltire Energy, said: “This award is a fantastic achievement for Saltire Energy. Supporting community initiatives is a real passion for myself and for the company. The entire team are thrilled to have our Saltire in the Community Programme acknowledged amongst the North East business community.

“The aim of the Saltire in the Community Programme is to provide opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who otherwise would not be able to partake in such activities. Our initiatives offer the young people involved a chance to escape their usual, often restrictive, routines and enhance their sporting and social skills for a brighter future.

“I hope that our win at this year’s Northern Star Business Awards will continue to encourage our staff to get involved in our community programme and also set a standard for other energy focused companies. It is important that Saltire Energy gives something back to the local communities in which it operates and we will continue to do so for many years to come.”

Saltire Energy is dedicated to supporting the local community in which it operates and has invested considerably in projects through the company’s Saltire in the Community programme, both locally within Aberdeen but also internationally.

Saltire Energy is currently involved in a variety of initiatives. Many students have benefitted from the scholarships that Saltire Energy has funded at The University of Aberdeen. In 2014, Saltire Energy become the sponsor of the Aberdeen Football Club first team squad in addition to the ongoing sponsorship of the Club’s youth teams.

On an international level, the company stepped in to provide the further support required to complete the build of the Good Shepherd School in Phuket, to provide a safer, cleaner and more practical solution to meet the educational needs of children in the area. The company also rebuilt two schools in Tacloban in the Philippines that were severely damaged by the 2013 typhoon.
