Exoma to explore potential 31 trillion ft CBM resource

Oilfield Technology,

Exoma Energy Ltd, an Australian oil and gas exploration company, has announced plans for an extensive drilling exploration campaign in 2012 that will target, among others, coalbed methane (CBM). The projects will begin in April in Queensland, Australia.

A joint project in 2011 with Chinese company CNOOC Gas & Power found CBM resources, as well as oil, shale and oil and shale gas. The exploration programme for 2012 will evaluate these resources.

The CBM reserves are found in the Permian Beets Creek and Aramac coal seams, covering around 12,000 km2 of land. Exoma has said the find represents a potential 31 trillion ft3 resource that will be measured and mapped in 2012 for further exploration the following year. The company will be exploring up to 13 CBM core wells.
