East Timor vs Australia

Oilfield Technology,

Australia has begun defending legal action against East Timor over its right to tax oil and gas pipelines. The pipeline being addressed is from the Bayu-Undan gas field to Darwin, running through the Timor Sea.

Spokesman for the East Timor government Agio Pereira stated: “Given the inability to discuss the degrees of jurisdiction in the disputed waters, East Timor is now of the view that the only way to resolve this matter is by submitting the dispute to an arbitration tribunal.”

Under the agreement, both countries have agreed to spend billions of dollars in royalties from the Greater Sunrise field, which holds over 5 trillion ft3 of gas and condensate.
