FourPhase, a solids and production performance specialist for the oil and gas sector, has announced a new contract with a major operator in the UKCS for a remote monitoring campaign. The job is the first of its kind for solids management and represents a turning point in the uptake of digitalisation of solids management.
Mobilisation will take place early summer, with the campaign expected to run for three months. The project will see the DualFlow 5K PSI placed on a Normally Unmanned Installation (NUI) and monitored directly from the FourPhase Operations & Technology Centre in Bergen. Once commissioning is complete, no permanent crew will be located offshore, a first for the sector. This will directly result in a four-person reduction of the People on Board (POB). The operator will monitor all activity from a nearby platform, this is possible because FourPhase’s technology integrates easily with any digital enterprise ecosystem.
Due to crane lifting limitations, the installation of the DualFlow technology will see it pushed to new limits. For the first time, the DualFlow will be disassembled in Bergen before being transported for mobilisation. Once it is lifted onto the NUI, the DualFlow will then be lowered through a hatch, to be located down in the well bay area for reassembly. This is possible due to the DualFlow’s compact 2m x 2m (6.7 ft x 6.7 ft) footprint. A Walk-to-Work vessel positioned alongside the NUI will be home for the four-man crew during reassembly, rig-up and commissioning but will fully disembark once installed.
Øyvind Heradstveit, CEO of FourPhase, comments: “We are proud to be leaders in remote monitoring within solids management. As a digital-first company, our DualFlow technology is capable of full remote control, removing the need for any manual operation entirely. However, we recognise this is a big jump for the sector and one that is part of a wider digitalisation journey in terms of IT infrastructure. For now, we are pleased to be part of this positive change for the sector. One that will cut down POB, as well as its associated costs and emissions, and massively reduce the risks associated with handling activities as well.”
