Subsea UK to lead trade mission to Latin America’s second largest economy

UK subsea companies will be heading to Mexico City next week on a showcase trade mission to increase business and trade opportunities in Latin America’s most promising energy hubs.

The event has been organised by the Department for International Trade (DIT) in association with Subsea UK, along with the Energy Industries Council (EIC), Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and Scottish Development International.

Industry body, Subsea UK will lead the subsea section of the showcase which will connect over 15 UK companies with Mexico’s most influential energy players in Mexico City, Ciudad del Carmen and Villahermosa.

Each company, whose products and services are focussed on subsea technology, drilling and efficiencies or midstream capabilities, will showcase their offerings to operators, potential customers and partners; and get the chance to network with government and industry officials.

Attendees will also gain detailed market insights as they look to exploit export opportunities and expand into one of the fastest-growing oil and gas provinces in the world. The showcase will also include a site visit to Mexican state-owned petroleum company, Pemex.

As part of the UK Government’s strategy to help double British exports by 2020, Subsea UK is   seeking to strengthen trade partnerships across the globe, exporting the country’s sought after subsea expertise to increase the sector’s international capabilities and reputation.

Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK said: “Following the Energy Reform in 2013, the Mexican energy sector has undergone some big changes, opening up new opportunities for UK companies to play a major role in helping to maximise the country’s oil output, exporting their wealth of skills and innovation.

“In December, the Mexican Government will open to tender for 10 deepwater blocks in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s crucial that UK companies take a strategic approach to market entry, making the right connections and partnerships to ensure they are in the running to be part of such a major development.

“This mission will provide delegates an opportunity to gauge business potential in the country, build a local network of contacts and visit the most important energy hubs in Mexico.

“At Subsea UK we work hard to support companies in fast-tracking their international growth by exploring new business prospects around the world.  By continuing to work with the Department for International Trade, we can further strengthen these ties and help UK firms break into the markets which hold the most potential and who are actively seeking what we can offer.”

The showcase will include a number of panel discussions, welcoming national and international energy experts to share their views on the future of Mexico’s energy industry, as well as look at the challenges for deepwater projects in the current market environment.
