Rolls-Royce wins order for Malaysian offshore gas field

Oilfield Technology,

Rolls-Royce has won an order to supply gas turbine and compression equipment for the Tapis oil and gas field, offshore Malaysia. The equipment will be utilised by ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia (EMEPMI) to expand and extend the production of the field.

The order includes two Rolls-Royce RB211-GT61 gas turbines, each driving twin Rolls-Royce RCB and RBB multi-stage barrel gas compressors. Each gas turbine compressor set will produce 27MW of power, enough to deliver up to 390 million ft3/d of natural gas.

Rolls-Royce will begin to deliver equipment to EMEPMI in the third quarter of 2012, supporting the operator in developing the long-term potential of the Tapis field.

Tony Ruegger, Rolls-Royce, Executive Vice-President – Oil & Gas said, “The reliability and efficiency of the Rolls-Royce equipment will help our customer in this important offshore field. The combination of Rolls-Royce RB211s and our gas compressors matches the demanding requirements of this important installation.”

The Rolls-Royce equipment will be installed at the Tapis Enhanced Oil Recovery Project, featuring a central processing platform with a new integrated deck.
