Ecopetrol discovery in deepwater Gulf of Mexico
Ecopetrol has announced that its US affiliate, Ecopetrol America, has made significant advancements in the exploration of the Norphlet Play through its partnership with Shell and Nexen Petroleum Offshore.
Shell, as operator in the partnership, announced that the Rydberg well was successful. This well is located 120 km offshore in the Mississippi Canyon Block 525 in 2280 m of water. The well was drilled to a total depth of 8038 m and encountered approximately 122 m of net oil pay.
This is the first discovery for the Shell, Ecopetrol and Nexen partnership.
Ecopetrol is Colombia's largest integrated oil and gas company, where it accounts for 60% of total production.
