Designer, manufacturer and supplier of bolt tightening equipment for the oil and gas industry, Atlas Copco Tentec bolt tightening solutions, is forecast to launch its new range of topside bolt tensioning tools at Offshore Europe 2015.

Its new Force10 range covers bolt sizes from ¾ in. to 4 in. and it has been designed to fit on to most ANSI B16.5, ANSI B16.47 Series 1, MSS-SP44, API-6A and API-17D standard flanges.

New features and improvements

The new range provides extra bolt load capacity without compromising on tool size or ease of use. The 10-tool range offers a multiple tool variations per bolt size – only 5 tools are required to suit bolt sizes from ¾ in. to 4 in. An enhanced bolt load allows for time efficient 25% and 50% tool to bolt ratio usage on most standard pipeline flanges, using the industry standard A and B tensioning pressure procedure.

The provision of spring return rams is one of the major new features incorporated into this range of tensioners. Force10 models F10-04 to F10-10 feature heavy duty integrated springs that help to reset the tensioners between pressure cycles, thereby speeding up the bolt tensioning operation and reducing the physical effort required.

Models F10-01 to F10-03 feature a mechanism which directs oil flow away from the operator in the instance the ram is over-stroked and exhausts oil harmlessly into the internals of the tensioner. Furthermore, models F10-04 to F10-10 feature internal hydraulic check valves that can sense the position of the tensioners hydraulic ram and safely release oil flow inside the tool.

User operation has been considered in the design of these products, evident through the inclusion of a knurled puller, a wide grip surface and robust handling straps. Moreover, all components are hard stamped with tool identification and specifications for ease of identification.

The company’s bolt tightening software (BTS) has been updated to include this new range. Using BTS removes the complexity of calculating tensioner pressures and torque values, making it simple to generate bolting documents.
