James Fisher and Sons plc, a global provider of specialist marine and energy solutions driving offshore energy forward, has secured a contract to deliver its Digi Rig solution to support an ongoing well test campaign aboard a rig in the Caspian Sea. The award marks an important milestone in the company's strategic investment in digital innovation and the expansion of its digital asset management capabilities.

James Fisher secures contract for Digi Rig in Caspian Sea

Under the contract, James Fisher will create a detailed digital twin of the rig to support the redesign and delivery of a bespoke air, steam and well test package. The digital model will allow project teams to accurately plan, validate and execute modifications before travelling offshore, improving efficiency while reducing project risk.

Developed through James Fisher's new product development programme, Digi Rig forms part of the company's integrated Asset Management, Inspection and Maintenance offering. The solution helps offshore operators better understand and maintain complex assets by combining digital technology with engineering expertise, enabling more efficient project delivery and improving safety throughout an asset's lifecycle.

The contract represents another step in strengthening James Fisher's digital offering through continued investment in innovative technologies and a strong emphasis on collaboration, helping customers complete increasingly complex offshore projects safely and efficiently.

Powered by R2S digital twin technology, Digi Rig creates a fully interactive 3D model of the rig, giving project teams remote access to accurate measurements and critical asset data. Multiple project stakeholders can collaborate within the same digital environment, reducing the need for repeat mobilisations while minimising travel requirements and improving planning before work begins offshore.

The digital model also enables James Fisher engineers to redesign equipment into modular, plug-and-play packages before mobilisation. By confirming layouts installation requirements in advance, equipment can be installed and removed much more quickly offshore, significantly reducing mobilisation and demobilisation time. This minimises manual, on-site assembly by helping to ensure equipment fits correctly first time.

Neil Sims, Head of Energy at James Fisher and Sons plc, said: “Innovation is core to James Fisher. Our new product development programme starts with our customers’ challenges and turns them into market-leading solutions that deliver real impact.

"Securing our first Digi Rig project is an important milestone for the business and demonstrates how our investment in digital innovation is delivering safer, more efficient ways of working with our customers. It was developed to provide a user-friendly solution for offshore operators to better plan, understand and maintain their assets, giving teams the confidence to make faster, data-driven decisions that improve productivity and operational safety."

By deploying Digi Rig in the Caspian Sea, this project establishes the foundation for future adoption across similar offshore projects and demonstrates James Fisher’s commitment to combining engineering expertise with digital innovation to meet customers’ evolving challenges around the globe.
