Republic Services deploys CNG trucks

Oilfield Technology,

Republic Services, Inc. has announced the deployment of 107 compressed natural gas (CNG) solid waste and recycling trucks to serve customers in Anaheim and throughout Orange County. The new CNG fleet will replace diesel and liquefied natural gas fuelled trucks, and represents a significant investment in cleaner, safer and more efficient vehicles for the local community.

Company president, Ron Krall, commented: "We are committed to doing our part to leave a cleaner, healthier community for our children and grandchildren. With these new trucks, we are reducing ozone-forming emissions to levels equal to removing 535 automobiles off Orange County roads. Our employees are proud to make a difference in their community."

Republic has also installed a natural gas fuelling station to support its new fleet of CNG powered trucks in Anaheim. These stations allow CNG trucks to fuel during non-peak hours, which has the added benefit of reduced energy consumption during the refuelling process.

According to data from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), each new CNG solid waste and recycling truck reduces ozone-forming emissions by as much as 80% compared to older diesel trucks. In addition, each new CNG truck deployed is equivalent to removing five passenger vehicles from local roads each year.

Republic operates a fleet of over 1400 CNG vehicles and 26 natural gas fuelling stations across the US. Approximately half of all Republic vehicles purchased in 2013 are powered by natural gas.
