Following a successful launch last year, decommissioning industry body Decom North Sea (DNS) has announced its 2014 schedule of its dedicated training course, with the first to take place on the 26th & 27th of February in Aberdeen.

Delivered in partnership with Decomareus, an organisation consisting of three course leaders with more than 105 years of decommissioning experience among them, the two-day course is aimed at anyone working in, connected to or with an interest in decommissioning, including operators, contractors, regulators, NGOs and the financial services sector.

Brian Nixon, Chief Executive of DNS, said: “We were thrilled with the early reception to our course and look forward to growing our reach this year as we expand to other parts of the UK. The course provides fantastic opportunities for industry newcomers, as well as those currently working in the sector who are looking to expand their knowledge.”

The course, entitled Decommissioning: From Planning to Execution, was first delivered in Aberdeen in November 2013. One of its attendants was Nick Andrews, General Manager of Axis Energy Projects Ltd.

He said: “As was to be expected from Decom North Sea, its course proved to be a detailed and very informative two days.  It was great to hear about the whole breadth of decommissioning experience from three experienced and knowledgeable practitioners.

“Coming from a relatively small company within the decommissioning supply chain, it was really helpful to be able to place our experiences into the broader picture from an oil company perspective.  Although I knew about several aspects of decommissioning, I now understand the context and where they fit within the overall process.”

DNS introduced the course to give an overview of offshore decommissioning activity, which is forecast at £1billion a year for decades to come, making the sector a crucial component of the offshore industry. It covers decommissioning legislation, safety and environmental issues, identifying best practice and improvement opportunities across the field.

The first course of the new year will run in Aberdeen in February, with additional dates in June and November. DNS will also hold a session in Norwich in April. To book or for more information about the training courses, visit www.decomnorthsea.com or contact Jennifer Mann.
