Prospectiuni wins best education/industry partnership award

Oilfield Technology,

Prospectiuni SA has announced that their 60-year partnership with The Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest (UB) was awarded the 'Best Education/Industry Partnership' at the 7th annual Getenergy Awards Ceremony, that took place on 3 June at the Law Society in London.

Over 10,000 votes were cast at the 2014 Getenergy awards, demonstrating the relationship between Prospectiuni and the University of Bucharest is well respected worldwide.

Comments

Prospectiuni CEO, Gehrig Schultz, commented: "Prospectiuni strongly believes that present and future generations should benefit from the earth's energy and mineral resources. This is a vision that is at the core of this 60 year long collaboration, which is unanimously accepted across Eastern Europe as a prime example of how universities and organisations can collaborate to create a stronger industry for everyone. We are very honoured to receive this award and I would like to thank students, faculty and staff who have gone year after year above and beyond their called duties to make sure this partnership is a success."

A cornerstone of this relationship has been curriculum-based fieldwork and training for university students. As a testament to the quality of students that emerge from this course, 90% of current geophysicists at Prospectiuni have attended these programs. This continues to be the first contact of many university students with not only a prospective employer but also practical applied geosciences. This hands-on training through field visits gives a foundation of the geophysical methods of prospecting taught at the faculty (seismic and potential fields), consolidates theoretical knowledge acquired in school and provides valuable practical knowledge at the same time.

Research projects

"This partnership not only develops future industry-defining geophysicists, but also contributes to further developing our knowledge of the natural resources potential in Romania,” added Victor Mocanu, Dean of the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics. “Last year, this partnership saw two significant research projects being completed and one project started. The partnership also creates opportunities for students to present their technical papers at major international conferences, including IGSC in Berlin, EAGE in London and IEC in Morocco."
