CIS Group celebrates 10 year anniversay with successful conductor installation campaign

CIS Group (CIS), an Acteon company that provides hammer services to install conductors and drive piles, completed a successful conductor installation campaign in Malaysia, which was finished nearly two days ahead of schedule, saving the oil and gas operator time and money.

The announcement coincides with CIS Group’s 10th anniversary, and is another in a series of successful operations executed in Malaysia since opening its doors in 2005.

Conductors installed to form new wellhead platform foundation

CIS carried out the operation to create a subsea template to form the foundation of a new wellhead platform that forms part of an offshore oil and gas development. The conductors were driven 275-feet below the mud line, which required penetrating a mix of dense sand and stiff clay formations.

To ensure a successful outcome, CIS supplied the following services and equipment for the operation:

  • To enhance the driving process, CIS fabricated four 30-inch x 1.5 in. custom-designed standard drive shoes, which were then welded by a reliable third party supplier to the bottom of the conductor pipe.
  • Carried out a pre-operation driveability study based on use of the 90 KJ hydraulic hammer. It provided further assurance that the correct equipment had been delivered, and that the drive shoe selected was appropriate for the job.
  • A primary and back-up set of 30 in. handling equipment to assist in running and driving the conductor pipe.
  • Once the driveability study was completed and verified that the best equipment and components for the operation had been selected, the offshore driving operation was ready to begin. To carry out the operation, CIS used its field-proven 90 KJ hydraulic hammer, a state-of-the-art hydraulic conductor-driving system with a capacity of 147 500 ft/lbs.

Offshore installation carried out in 12 hours

The programme was completed in five months, with CIS carrying out the offshore conductor-driving operation in just 12 hours.

“By finishing the job early, the operator reaped the benefits of reduced time and costs,” said Andy Penman, Group Managing Director of CIS. “It was a real achievement, and a fitting way to celebrate our 10th anniversary.”

CIS performed its first conductor-driving operation in India in 2005. Since then, it has completed hundreds of installations, in the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Trinidad, China, the Middle East, and the Gulf of Mexico, among others.

The range of services provided by CIS supports the Acteon Group’s commitment to defining subsea services across a range of interconnected disciplines.
