Big Star Oil & Gas LLC has announced that its second Howard County Wolfcamp horizontal well, the Open Unit A2H, has been successfully brought on production at a peak daily rate of 1504 boe/d (2-phase) and a peak 30-day average of 1321 boe/d. Based upon data available to Big Star, the Open Unit A2H is the third best horizontal Wolfcamp A producer in the Permian Basin, coming in behind the company's recent Ryder Unit A2H and Pioneer Natural Resources' Sale Ranch 15B 2H. The Open Unit A2H has a productive lateral length of 7500', and was completed in 39-stages utilising a total of 11.6 million pounds of proppant. The 30-day average production consists of 1190 bpd and 786 million ft3/d.

According to Stella Swanson, Big Star Partner and Vice President Land, the company has a number of nearby locations to be drilled, "The Open and Ryder are both in our 'Fairway' project area near Big Spring, Texas," said Swanson. "We have plans for an additional 34 Wolfcamp A wells in this contiguous acreage block, including the Masters Unit A1H which we recently drilled."

The Masters Unit well is expected to be completed in October.

In addition to the Wolfcamp A the contiguous block also has reservoir-grade Lower Spraberry and Wolfcamp B shale. Big Star recently took core samples in the Middle Spraberry, which has been identified as a zone of interest by Diamondback Energy. Additionally, Endeavor Energy Resources operates a nearby Cline horizontal, the Guitar 1-4 1H. Including all five intervals "there could be more than 125 locations in this area," stated Swanson.

Big Star has identified over 250 gross development locations within the Wolfcamp A, Wolfcamp B, and Lower Spraberry shale horizons across its 13 000 net acres of Midland Basin leasehold, and is evaluating additional horizontal well development opportunities in the Middle Spraberry and Cline formations. The company is currently drilling its fifth Howard County horizontal shale well.
