The Energy Industries Council (EIC), the leading trade association for UK companies that supply goods and services to the energy industries worldwide, is to hold a Senegal Export Showcase to highlight business opportunities for the UK energy supply chain in the West African country. The event, which is taking place at the EIC’s London offices on Thursday 14 July 2016, comes on the back of recent discoveries by Cairn Energy and Kosmos Energy in Senegal and will highlight the infrastructure and capabilities required for these billion dollar projects.

HE Thierno Alassane Sall, the Senegal Minister for Energy and Development of Renewable Energy, will provide an overview of the hydrocarbons industry in Senegal. He will be joined by Mamadou Faye, Chief Executive Officer of Petrosen, the Senegalese national oil company, who will provide an update on the Kosmos Energy project as well as other refinery opportunities, and Miles Warner, General Manager of Cairn Energy’s business in Senegal, who will discuss the FAN-1 and SNE-1 projects and highlight potential opportunities for the UK supply chain. Other topics to be covered include a market update on the country, how to work with Senegalese operating companies, and the importance of local partnerships.

“We are delighted that the EIC is hosting such a high-level event, bringing members of the UK supply chain together with key decision makers from government and operators in the fast growing energy market of Senegal,” said EIC CEO Stuart Broadley.

He continued, “With recent discoveries by Cairn Energy and Kosmos, the favourable investment climate and the clear government support for developing the oil and gas sector, we believe that this showcase will be enormously helpful for UK companies as they explore opportunities in this exciting new market.”

Recent discoveries

Senegal has the potential to become a major oil and gas exporter due to several recent discoveries. This includes Cairn Energy’s FAN-1 and SNE-1 wells that were in discovered 2014 and contain significant hydrocarbon resources, with the SNE field having an estimated contingent resource of 561 million bbls, and Kosmos Energy’s 2015 discovery of the Greater Tortue Complex. The complex has a P-mean gross resource estimate of 25 trillion ft3 of gas.
