Bechtel announced that all 260 modules comprising the three LNG plants the company is building on Curtis Island are now on site, a significant milestone in their construction. The final module was delivered to the Australia Pacific LNG project this week. The modules, prefabricated steel structures that house the production units, were built by Bechtel in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines then shipped to Australia. The modules for the Queensland Curtis LNG, Santos GLNG, and Australia Pacific LNG were designed, built, and delivered over a three year period. The Santos GLNG consists of 111 modules, Queensland Curtis LNG has 80, and Australia Pacific LNG has 69. The tallest module measures more than 100 ft and the longest more than 250 ft. The combined weight of the steel structures equals that of 12 Eifel Towers.

Alasdair Cathcart, GM of LNG at Bechtel said, “this is an incredible accomplishment and vital to keeping these projects on track. The construction and transport of the modules, including one weighing six times more than an A380 airliner, were among the most complex challenges of the projects. Their successful delivery is a result of collaboration with our customers and the dedication of the teams at each location.”

Eaton has announced that it has been supporting Yokogawa in the development of its next generation integrated production control system, CENTUM VP R6.01. Yokogawa wanted to design a new system with an intrinsically safe universal input/output (I/O) module for greater efficiency in system configuration and engineering and approached MTL, part of Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds business, for its expertise in intrinsic safety devices for hazardous area and general process control applications.

Riccardo Codega, MTL Marking Director of Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds Division said, “we have a long standing relationship with Yokogawa, having worked together globally for more than 20 years on various projects, so we were delighted once again to partner with them on CENTUM VP R6.01. We worked closely with them to understand their requirements for a universal I/O module and recommend our MTL4500 intrinsic safety isolators, which have been adapted to work in a universal environment. The backplane mounting series is designed with systems vendors in mind and is perfect for DCS applications such as this.”

The President of PDVSA, Eulogio Del Pino and Eni’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi met in Caracas for an update on the ongoing activities and common projects across Venezuela. During the meeting Eni’s CEO shared with the President of PDVSA the work progress status and the future activities related to the development of projects in Perla and Junin-5. Also, the CEO outlined to the President some initiatives aimed at improving efficiency with consequent increase in value of the joint projects. The meeting was also an opportunity to analyse the global energy scenario especially in light of the recent events that have heavily affected the world oil market.

Mott McDonald is to standardise use of Intergraph SmartPlant solutions across its oil and gas business. The decision was prompted by the success of the company’s adoption of Intergraph Smart 3D for particular projects in the Middle East. The software will be rolled out to the consultancy’s offices in the UK, UAE, Oman and India over the next year. Mott MacDonald has purchased licenses for Smart 3D, SmartPlant Electrical Basic, SmartPlant Foundation Basic Integrator, SmartPlant Interop Publisher and Smart 3D to PDMS Exporter. These solutions will allow the company to capitalise, when needed, on the interoperability of Intergraph’s Smart 3D solutions and in turn achieve increased productivity and significant savings with the implementation of just one 3D solution.

Albert Allan, MD, Mott MacDonald’s oil and gas business said, “we are incredibly impressed with the successful adoption of Smart 3D technology on our latest detailed design projects. We look forward to standardising and expanding our use of Intergraph SmartPlant solutions to support the technical global services we offer.”
