Oilfield Technology,

With the technical programme composed, and the early registration deadline coming up Mid-March, this is the perfect time to sit down and oversee all the items the 78th EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, including SPE EUROPEC, has to offer.

With this year’s theme ‘Efficient Use of Technology – Unlocking Potential’ EAGE invites the geoscience and engineering community to discuss how the challenges of the low oil price environment can be met. As the world’s largest multi-disciplinary geoscience event, EAGE continues to provide unique value and relevance for their members and all who support the event.

The programme for Vienna 2016 on 30 May - 2 June includes a conference with a wide variety of technical topics in parallel sessions, including oral and poster presentations. The posters will be presented digitally again, after the successful launch of e-posters last year. Additional to the conference, there will be numerous workshops, short courses and field trips to choose from, all scheduled around the main conference. Take a special interest in the agenda on Sunday 29 May, Monday 30 May and Friday 3 June and maximise your time in Vienna.

The student geoscience community will be well catered with a complete student programme themed ‘Perform & Peak’. It includes technical presentations, workshops, an exhibition tour, trial interviews and contests such as the legendary Geo-Quiz. The student field trip is sponsored by OMV this year. It will provide a chance to get close to the largest oil field in Central Europe, possibly visit a drilling rig and also examine the reservoirs in OMV’s core lab.

Encouraged by the success of Madrid 2015, a full schedule of featured events is being built around the main technical programme and exhibition. For example the well-received forum and executive sessions. This year EAGE’s forum topic is 'The Future of the Oil Industry in Light of the Recent Oil Prices'. It will discuss the wrong proven predictability of oil prices between 2010 and mid 2014 at US$100/bbl levels, which developed into a highly volatile oil price behaviour between US$40 and 60/bbl. The executive sessions will focus on ‘The Black Sea - Regional Focus' and ‘Unconventionals Outside North America’. For complete descriptions please visit our website.

Especially for our Young Professionals and Women in Geoscience and Engineering communities we have included two special interest sessions that include the opportunity to informally meet and discuss after the main presentations.

Vienna 2016 offers an exhibition where around 350 international companies will be showcasing the latest technology and services. Walk around the exhibition and grow a network of invaluable contacts for benchmarking, partnering and building your company and career. Meet the people behind the products and see, touch, experience and understand cutting edge technologies.

On Monday 30 May 2016 the grand opening of the exhibition, the “icebreaker reception will be a great start of the week. From Tuesday 31 May to Thursday 2 June the exhibition will be the meeting place for delegates, with breakfast, coffees and afternoon drinks served. At the exhibition you will find international oil companies, national oil companies, energy industry consultants, software vendors, service companies, equipment suppliers, research institutes, licensing agencies and governmental bodies.

Visit the Special Interest Areas, including the Consultancy area, Job Centre, Learning Geoscience area, University area and the International Prospect Centre.

EAGE Vienna 2016 is sponsored by OMV, ExxonMobil, Kuwait Oil Company, Saudi Aramco, Shell, Total, BGP, Maersk Oil, DownUnder Geosolutions, WesternGeco, Seabed Geosolutions, ARGAS, Mitcham Industries and Statoil.
