Repeat DAS and DTS Logging for Production and Cluster Efficiency Evaluation on a Gas Condensate Producer in the Montney Formation

The webinar will highlight the role that distributed fibre optic sensing can play in better understanding variations in production along a horizontal gas condensate producer, as well as interference effects from neighbouring wells. It will be demonstrated that these tools can be utilised to help understand relationships of cluster efficiency to completion designs by performing three surveys, 7 and 12 months apart. In this project a multi-stage horizontal gas condensate producer within the Montney Formation was logged with Distributed Acoustic (DAS) and Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Strain Sensing (DSS), on a permanently installed fibre optic cable.

From these downhole acquired data, a joint DAS and DTS processing workflow was applied to quantitatively determine the influx of both gas and liquid. Several DAS derivatives, including acoustic spectral noise logging, and slow strain transient analysis with DTS thermal modelling, were combined to provide the production allocations along the wellbore. From these results, the cluster efficiency and uniformity for individual stages were computed and assessed. The production allocations along the wellbore show clear variability between individual stages. Comparing both surveys, despite the drop in production after 7 months, the gas and liquid production profiles remain similar. The higher producing zones still dominate whilst the lower producing zones remain low. This translates to the uniformity index analysis, which shows the same ranking between the different designs.
