£21 million is being invested by Scottish and Japanese companies into underwater technology projects to promote economic growth opportunities in the 'Blue Economy'.

Project management and detailed engineering has commenced at Subsea 7’s office in Aberdeen, with offshore activities scheduled for 2020 and 2021.

Entries are being sought for the best subsea company of the year award, which is sponsored by the Oil & Gas Authority, and the young emerging talent award, which is sponsored by SMD.

The contract is for the Golfinho development, a deepwater discovery off the coast of Mozambique that will be developed as a subsea system tied back to an onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

Services to be provided will include data acquisition utilising remote operated vehicle (ROV)-deployed autonomous nodal recording technology in water depths up to 60 m.

The Balder X Project will extend the life of the Jotun A FPSO towards 2045 through refurbishing it and relocating it to the Balder licence PL 001, the first production license on the Norwegian continental shelf.
