RCP awarded six figure contract

A leading control and instrumentation firm has been awarded a contract worth £240 000 (US$360 000) to supply and install control systems to a Scandinavian drilling contractor.

RCP, which is headquartered in Aberdeen and has been supplying control and instrumentation equipment to the global oil and gas industry for more than a decade, is due to install a blowout preventer (BOP) control system on the firm’s new build drillship operating in South-east Asia.

The state of the art technology is the second BOP system order placed with RCP in the last financial quarter.

With a stringent timeframe of only six weeks, engineers working in both RCP’s Singapore and Aberdeen offices have been involved in the design and build of the CE approved system, which is due to be delivered to the drilling contractor by the end of Q3 2015. The system includes easily adaptable touch screen HMI panels to enhance operational efficiency and fibre optic cables to save space and reduce installation costs.

RCP managing director, Ben Knight, said: “We are delighted that this customer has chosen us to provide the BOP control panels for its first vessel, especially now that operating investment in the industry is being kept to a minimum. We have committed to a short lead-time of only six weeks for the installation, and although this will be challenging, we are confident we will deliver on time whilst still offering a competitive price.

“One of the main advantages of these types of control systems is that they can be expanded and evolved into much more complex systems if and when required. We hope this is the start of what will be a very good working relationship with the drilling contractor, as we continue to build on a reputation for first-rate value and engineering excellence.”

Due to the strict timeframe of the contract, RCP recently recruited a new graduate software engineer to help support the project, with potential to take on another addition to the team in the near future.

The firm is also due to launch its new BOP Event Logger system at Offshore Europe this year. To find out more information, visit RCP at stand 3D10, hall 3.
