Primary Flow Signal, a designer and manufacturer of innovative, durable, and accurate flow-metering solutions, has delivered a 96” ASME PTC 19.5, throat-tapped flow nozzle for use within the largest gas turbine validation facility in the world. Once installed in the facility’s test stand, the flow nozzle will be subjected to simulations of real-world power connectivity and testing well beyond critical limits of normal plant operations.
The first flow nozzle has been shipped and orders have been placed for additional nozzles, giving the facility significantly more accurate measurement of the high air flow output required for testing H-class gas turbines. This very large line size nozzle was manufactured at the company’s Rhode Island facility using a combination of 304 stainless steel and fiberglass. The nozzle features four equally-spaced taps at the throat for a variety of instrumentation required for a specific test.
“When we were approached by a global gas turbine manufacturer to assist with improving accuracy for their test stand, we were extremely excited by the engineering challenge it would present,” said Kenneth P. Fountain, Business Development Manager of Power & OEM Markets at Primary Flow Signal. “Even though this meter must adhere to specific standards, the customer noted that our engineering expertise and reputation for high-quality manufacturing was a deciding factor when choosing us for this project.”
Primary Flow Signal’s PTC 19.5 and PTC-6 flow elements are high performance, reliable, differential-producing flow measurement devices that are intended to be the primary device for steam turbine acceptance tests. The meter was specifically designed and manufactured in accord with the requirements of the ASME Performance Test Code 19.5 for Steam Turbines. These nozzles are available in flanged and weld-in styles, and feature interior surfaces that are precision machined for cylindricality and a hydraulically-smooth surface. For weld-in flow nozzles, a code-recommended inspection port with a removable, contoured pin oriented plug is available.
PFS’s metering solutions are designed and manufactured in the United States by the industry’s largest team of specialised hydraulic engineers, backed by extensive laboratory and field testing, ISO 9001-2008 certification, and efficient vertically-integrated facilities. PFS’s products deliver a level of differential metering accuracy, reliability, and versatility, coupled with unparalleled engineering support, simply not available from other metering solutions.
