Percepto launches AI emission detector for remote, drone-based methane surveying

Already deployed across major US basins, Percepto automates OGI surveying with autonomous drones, leveraging remote operations and now – AI built for upstream oil and gas operators. The algorithm detects emissions in real-time, making emissions monitoring more efficient, scalable, and reliable.

Designed for enterprise-wide deployment, the AI Emission Detector flags emissions in real time, allowing operators to sidestep big data challenges when conducting high-frequency OGI inspections with Percepto drones.

The fully autonomous drones capture Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) video on scheduled missions, while Percepto’s AI analyses the footage to identify and flag potential methane emissions. Verified alerts are sent to stakeholders with precise geolocation, timestamps, environmental data, and dwell time – enabling faster, more focused response efforts.

The system detects emissions down to the component level, with field-validated performance down to 100 g/hr at 90% confidence.

Operators gain the flexibility to investigate potential issues without dispatching field teams, unlocking both safety and OpEx advantages. With higher inspection frequency and trusted data, teams can make smarter, data-driven decisions – whether addressing urgent anomalies or rethinking capital plans.
