MTU engines for Turkey's platform support vessels

MTU Turkey will supply eight 16-cylinder 4000 M33S marine gensets to the Turkish Selah shipyard. Four diesel-electric marine gensets with a power output of 1.990 kW will propel each of the two platform supply vessels. The vessels, expected to be delivered in 2015 and 2016, are being built in Tuzla Bay near Istanbul. Their job will be to supply oil and gas platforms with fluids and materials and they are mainly to operate from harbors on the southern and western coasts of Africa and Europe.

Powerful – even in heavy seas

“Platform supply vessels must be able to operate perfectly, even in heavy seas. We are confident that MTU engines can meet this demand and prove their potential to the Selah shipyard. The Selah shipyard is well known in Turkey. For this project, MTU Turkey supplied engines to Selah for the first time“, said Hilmi Ay, Marine Sales Manager for MTU Turkey. Ali Güzel, Assistant General Manager of MTU Turkey added: “This is a strategic sale for us, as it gives us the chance to showcase our products in an offshore vessel built by a Turkish shipyard. For Selah, this order has opened the door to the offshore ship market”.

For 32 years, Selah has been building commercial ships for service in various countries, thus epitomizing the modern and booming commercial shipping industry in Turkey and overseas. 67 ships built by the shipyard are currently operating in international waters. “For the first time, Selah will cooperate with MTU in building such sophisticated platform supply vessels and we are very excited about this important project”, said Serdar Keskin, Selah Contract Manager.
