Capreolus 3D seismic survey completed

The largest 3D seismic survey ever acquired offshore Australia, the Capreolus 3D has been completed ahead of schedule after an 11 month acquisition campaign. The survey covers the recent Phoenix South- 1X oilfield discovery in an area previously thought to be gas prone. The Phoenix South oil discovery has opened up a new oil-prone fairway within one of the few remaining under explored parts of the north-west shelf and the Capreolus 3D survey enables reduced risk and play-based exploration targeting Triassic and Jurassic structural and stratigraphic targets.

The Capreolus 3D survey will provide many opportunities for reduced risk and play-based exploration targeting Triassic and Jurassic structural and stratigraphic targets.

The survey was acquired over an 11-month period by Polarcus Asima, Polarcus Amani and Polarcus Naila in 12 x 100 m x 8100/9000 m configurations, with 12.5 m flip/flop shot interval and 12 s record length. Data processing is ongoing at DownUnder GeoSolutions through a broadband Pre-SDM workflow with fast track Pre-SDM data available now, and final processed data available from the end of 2016.
