Dr Liane Smith takes home Inspiring Leader Award

Dr Liane Smith, founder and MD of global well integrity management specialists Wood Group Intetech (WGI), was last night named winner of the Inspiring Leader category at the SPE Offshore Achievement Awards. The prestigious ceremony held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre recognised outstanding successes within the UK’s offshore energy industry, for categories including emerging technology, industry innovation and individual achievement.

In a competitive category alongside finalists Murray Kerr, director of SengS Subsea Engineering Solutions and Mal Lowe, director of Petrofac; Dr Smith was announced winner of the Inspiring Leader award in recognition of her contribution to the UK’s oil and gas sector and her pioneering work in the fields of well integrity management and corrosion engineering.

Dr Smith, founder and MD of Wood Group Intetech, said: “I am really delighted to have received this award. It will be fantastic if I can inspire others to push their innovative ideas out into the industry, which I still believe is continuously seeking new solutions. I find my own inspiration from my colleagues in Wood Group Intetech and across the entire Wood Group organisation; they’re a great team and truly committed to finding the best solutions to resolve client challenges.”

Through her work at WGI, Dr Smith has led the development of industry-leading well integrity and corrosion software that has helped to shape the industry’s approach to asset integrity management, shifting the focus to proactive identification of emerging integrity issues to safeguard wells, pipelines and production facilities worldwide.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dr Smith strongly believes that industry professionals should pass on their valuable experience to the next generation of talent, and is an active proponent of graduate training programmes and mentoring schemes.
