Statoil has received consent to drill four survey wells at Johan Sverdrup.

Statoil is the operator of the Johan Sverdrup field, which is in the North Sea around 155 km west of Karmøy in Rogaland county.

The field has been developed using four fixed facilities connected by bridges. Production from the field is expected to begin in late 2019.

The PSA has given Statoil consent to drill four survey wells in order to obtain information about the reservoir conditions in the field. Consent has been given in the form of two decisions: one for one of the wells and one for the other three.

Drilling is scheduled to begin on 1 November 2016 and will last around four months. Water depth in the area is 110 - 120 m.

The wells will be drilled using Deepsea Atlantic, which is a semi-submersible drilling facility of the MODU GVA 7500 type, supplied by Daewoo of South Korea in 2009. The facility is operated by Odfjell Drilling AS. It is registered in Singapore and classified by DNV GL. Deepsea Atlantic was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance in July 2009.
